{{Turbine Games Q&A | Link = <nowiki>http://www.turbinegames.com/qa/view_questions.html?id=</nowiki> | Title = Would it be possbile to add close proximity spells to war magic? | Text = {{Turbine Games Q&A Question | Asked = 2001.02.21 | Player = Donster | Title = Would it be possbile to add close proximity spells to war magic? | Category = Combat | Question = What I had in mind was something that was a spell that affected an area in front of you (say 120 degrees or so).

It seems that when a mage gets into close combat to tend to get overrun and that you can't take down the monsters quick enough.

As for the specifics as to mana costs, range, difficulty, learnable, questable, etc. I will leave that to you folks since you know more about balance than I ever would.

If you were to ask for my opninion though :) I would say that they should be learnable (brute force), are castable from levels 1-6, that they target the caster, should cost about 3 times the bolt equivalent, follows the same damage scale as a streak spell, and affect an area about 2 drudges deep (for lack of a better measuring stick :).

My reasoning for such a spell would be that if I were a mage roaming the lands, I would notice that there were many times where I could not harm all of the monsters that are harming me and that I would want to do something about it. So I would research the ability to cast a close combat spell based on the scholarly knowledge I had obtained learning ring spells. :)

Thanks for reading!
Donster | Answered = 2001.02.21 | Dev = Dell | Answer = This sounds like a good idea, and it has been tossed around the office for some time. New spells are certainly on the work table, and for all those that are feeling neglected because they don't have an obscenely high magic school to cast level 7's, don't be. We have plans, for more fun and exciting war spells. }} }}
