I recall this quite clearly because once when I needed saffron, I spent something like $8.00 to get something that didn't even measure on a scientific weight scale... it was so tiny, and expensive that it left a lasting impression on me. And it was quite burgundy/purple. Almost wine-red.<br /><br />It's the processed product of saffron's stigmas that are yellow.<br /><br />Sean. }} }}
