== Notes == A very old city that has been mostly lost in portal space making it dangerous for anyone wishing to stay for long periods. It predates the Empyreans who at one point lived there and attempted to tame the unstable portal magic. Alatar Locke the famous early explorer of Dereth and friend of Elysa Strathelar once traversed parts of the city and left behind his notes on each section. === Portals to and from The Floating City === There are no permanent portals to the Floating City except in the Golem Sanctum, which is also a random appearing portal. Frequently, however, a portal may be found around 86.5S,5.4E near the Land Bridge Villas lifestone (see above for route). Using one of the landscape portals will drop you randomly in one of the sections named below. The portal in the Golem Sanctum appears to be a stable portal to the Floating City's tunnels. Landscape portals are restricted to level 150+, while the portal in the Golem Sanctum is unrestricted. Every time a portion of the dungeon is loaded (whenever a player visits the city), certain portals within the Floating City are changed, presumably at random; this includes both the exit portals (usually a town), and the few random portals (as noted on the map files) which lead to some other random section of the Floating City. Look closely at the maps of all areas within the Floating City to see which portals are stable—do not change—and which portals vary. Depending on which portals are generated, it may be impossible to access certain levels of the Floating City unless your first drop point upon entry happens to be that particular level. If that happens, logging out and waiting 5–10 minutes for the dungeon to "unload" and logging on again can reset the portals and hopefully load the one you need. The Skyway, Tunnels and Lost Chamber require use of a random portal (either getting lucky from a landscape spawned portal, or one of the monthly-randomized portals within the city itself) to access. The Bar, Banderling Area, Construction Area, and Museum are all connected by a circuit of stable portals, so landing in any one of those four levels effectively grants you access to all of them. === The Different Sections of the Floating City === * The Floating City (Banderling Area)—contains stable portals to/from Museum and Bar; also to/from Construction Area, but only for those with lockpick (diff 402). * The Floating City (Bar)—contains stable portal to/from Banderling Area; also Distillery Dew needed to complete the Floating City Quest (level 150+, easy xp). * The Floating City (Construction Area)—contains stable portal to/from Banderling Area; also contains one portal to a random section of the Floating City (changes monthly). * The Floating City (Lost Chamber)—no stable portals to/from this area; contains one portal to a random section of the Floating City (changes monthly). * The Floating City (Museum)—contains stable portal to/from Banderling Area; also contains one portal to a random section of the Floating City (changes monthly). * The Floating City (Skyway)—no stable portals to/from this area; contains one portal to a random section of the Floating City (changes monthly). * The Floating City (Tunnels)—contains stable portal to/from Golem Sanctum only; also contains two portals, each leading to a random section of the Floating City (both change monthly). == Maps == * See the different sections above == NPCs == * See the different sections above == Creatures == * See the different sections above == Items and Objects == * A Stained Book (Banderling Area) * A Stained Book (Bar) * A Stained Book (Lost Chamber) * A Stained Book (Museum) * A Stained Book (Skyway) * Distillery Dew - found in a chest in the bar area, see map. == Portals == * Most of the portals to the other sections change randomly each patch * Some of the exit portals, however, are stable and don't change, see each of the maps for locations == Images == Click image for full size version. <gallery heights=200px widths=200px perrow=3> File:The Floating City Live.jpg|A random portal to the Floating City File:Image.jpg|Caption </gallery> == Update History == {{Update History| Hollow Victory * Dungeon added.
