Re: Pages vs categories
Hey

Yes, I agree with you that the tables are superior. It's just I didn't like having an entire page of information loaded everytime (especially so many icons) to find what will be a certain wield or level requirement. So I was thinking:
My Apologies for making a change to reflect how this quest was now. I will refrain from doing so in the future.

* Pluralise categories (I think this makes more sense for lists anyway), redirect pages to the categories, and then add smaller tables containing the most useful information in the wield categories.
----
* Redirect the named pages to the categories so it's all nice and tidy on one page.
I changed the color schemes on the skill pages, they were unreadable before. If you would prefer different colors that's fine by me. I figured it was most important to be able to see the text :D

This way there will be smaller pages to load and less pages to search. With a numbered list on the category page we won't need to use categorycount parserfunction for every item on the list.

Finally, I was thinking that would some javescript we could basic tooltips so we just hover over items in the category list to get the information that you mentioned. <strike>I don't know much about javascript, though, and it will need Tlosk to add stuff to the installation (another reason I wanted to use less templates)</strike> (easier than I thought!). The recent game news has kinda killed my motivation  though lol...

edit: oh, I forgot to mention that weapon tables were massively out of date as they hadn't been updated (well, a few here and there) for the Master of Arms event. That's the other reason I wanted to try something else, really. I was maintaining some of those pages for a while, but it's so freaking tedious a job to do :/

Tooltips
Re: Wiki Questions
When I was doing research into tooltips, I found a popular script that is used by many gaming wikis in one form or another. The guy who created it is Pcj from the wowwiki/wowpedia. It's a bit fancy, but I think we could get trim it down to something simple for our wiki. I wonder if Tlosk could get it working.
Hey there, thanks for the detailed reply!  I was able to chat with Bob briefly in Discord as well, so I think I am fully up-to-date on the status of the wiki. The reddit discussions you linked were exactly the type of information I was looking for.

Once the code has been installed, from what I've seen you just add tags to the template that you want to appear on the destination page. This is why I was going to separate images from templates also.
I was fairly active on acpedia.org making edits back in 2013-2014.  Looking at my contribution list, I have been able to verify that they are pretty much all merged with the current wikia/fandom content.  That is good because my main aim was always to contribute for the community. I'm in the process of getting back into the game, so any edits I make going forward will be on fandom.  Although, I will most certainly be using acpedia.org for browsing/reading purposes.

Anyway, not sure if all this is worth it anymore, do you think that AC will have a future with F2P? I noticed Sev's thread didn't really say that game would never receive a substantial update or that it would ever close. I can't imagine the devs doing all those tech updates for nothing...
My own story is actually fairly similar to the AC wiki.  I was an admin on the Dragon Quest Wiki on wikia back in 2009-2010.  In 2010, we decided to go independent due changes being forced by wikia.  That is when I created dragon-quest.org and ported everything over.  I still run the site today and am part of NIWA which is an organization to foster collaboration among independently hosted wikis.  So I can identify with the challenges and decisions that you have had to make over the years.  I still very much dislike wikia/fandom, but I admit that if I do get hit by a bus, the Dragon Quest wiki is probably in trouble.   --Pagoda (talk) 01:59, July 28, 2019 (UTC)

Quest guide changes
Hi there!
Hey

Basically I wanted to remove some duplicate information and unneeded sections from the quest guide.
Yes, I recreated all of the content for Neftet that was recently released to Coldeve and the Drunkenfell ACE servers. The content is also in the works for GDLE conversion. To answer your question, I studied the data for several months, watched numerous videos on several of the quests to jog my personal memory and meticulously re-created everything as perfect as humanly possible according to PCAP data. What changed was mostly quest rewards as Legendary Tokens were phased out, and several videos confirm the updated rewards.

# Removed rewards summary along with all multiple sections and tables, and added a main rewards section to the body with a single table per task.
They were outdated both here and acpedia. I also reflected these changes at acpedia. I hope this answers your question! Feel free to message in in Discord in the ACE channel under Drid#4917 in the contributor channel, or the LSD channel under content contributor. All of us in the AC community appreciate your diligence and efforts in maintaining these wiki's! Since the content is "fresh" again, I felt it deserved to be corrected as players will be coming here now that the content is available once more!
# Removed the duplicate list of items (objects no longer have icons since they removed the icon from the id panel) and changed wikilinks in the walkthrough to small icons (these could be changed to itemlinks now for tooltips).
# Removed header link parameters (“title link = true” etc) from the summary template as the majority of quest guides will have a walkthrough, list of dungeons and some sort of reward.

I was hoping that icons in the walkthrough would be smaller enough to still be helpful but not distract from reading the text. Tooltips could work nicely as you wouldn't have to leave the page to view additional panels for all items related to the quest. They don't always load very quickly on this installation unfortunately... Wikkii is so very slow sometimes :/
Regards,
Drid

Crazy idea time! what are your thoughts on swallowing our pride and using the evil Wikia site again? it's pretty speedy and has the old monobook/vector type skin when you're logged in.

Re: Wiki Questions Edit

Hey there, thanks for the detailed reply! I was able to chat with Bob briefly in Discord as well, so I think I am fully up-to-date on the status of the wiki. The reddit discussions you linked were exactly the type of information I was looking for.
