History

The ACCW was created by Gouru of Morningthaw in October of 2007. The idea for the wiki came from two threads on the Turbine message boards. Other fan sites were not being updated frequently and they all required contributors to submit information to the staff, which would then need to review and add it. With the staff activity shrinking, the idea of a wiki that anyone could add to was born.

The ACCW was originally located at Asheron.info. When the site was created by Gouru, it was being hosted by a commercial service. By December of 2008, the wiki had outgrown it's host and needed to relocate. The player Mav offered to host it for free, and the ACCW remained at asheron.info.

In the fall of 2009, the wiki had become too much for Mav to continue hosting, and the ACCW once again needed a new host. In September of 2009, the wiki moved to the commercial wiki host wikia.com with the ACCW available at asheron.wikia.com.

In the fall of 2010, Wikia made changes to the site layout and available wiki skins, and the administators of the ACCW decided to relocate again. The wiki moved to another commercial wiki host, wikkii.net, with the ACCW available at ac.wikkii.net. The copy of the ACCW on wikia remained open, but the administrators and contributors focused their efforts on the new wikkii copy.

In 2012, the wikkii hosting service started having issues ranging from sporadic slowness to complete unavailability. Due to this, acpedia.org was opened. This site took a database dump of ac.wikkii.net and put up a read only mirror of the wiki, for times when the main site was down. The idea was that acpedia would periodically be refreshed with new data, but would remain a read-only backup.

Eventually, the admins of acpedia decided to make the site editable, due to how unstable wikkii had become. Others stuck with the wikkii.net version, and the two versions drifted apart in both content and design.

In the summer of 2014, the entire wikkii hosting service abruptly shut down. An Adventurer, with help from wikia staff, used a recent dump of ac.wikkii.net to bring the the wikia copy of the ACCW back up to date.

In the winter of 2019, wikia rebranded to fandom. As a result, asheron.wikia.com became asheron.fandom.com.

In the summer of 2019, acpedia.org ceased operations, with the site operator and reddit user dualboot stating that it no longer made financial sense to continue paying for the site that lacked contributors and was not being recommended as a source of information.
