Upcoming Changes to Aerlinthe
May 8, 2002
As is our tradition in Asheron's Call, we always like to keep an open mind to suggestions from the players. This helps us identify areas that really need to be updated with the times. This is the driving factor behind a set of changes going into effect with the May prop next week.
Here is a rundown:
- 1. Lady Aerfalle no longer drops the Staff. It will be moved to the chest that the Ashen Key opens.
- 2. Lady Aerfalle will drop 12 instances of the Ashen Key. They will also be placed on a long decay timer so they do not just disappear instantly.
- 3. The Ashen Key will be quest-flagged for one pickup per 14 days.
- 4. The Unreadable Scroll, Pallium and Staff will now be quest-flagged for one pickup per 14 days.
- 5. The Pallium and Staff will become no-drop on death, and non-transferable. This will also affect all existing items of these types already in the game.
- 6. The chest will regenerate its loot every 60 seconds.
- 7. The amount of extra loot in the chest will be cut in half.
We had several goals:
- 1. Eliminate some of the tedium of the quest. If you go on the quest with 10 people who need the items, you now only need to go through the quest one time instead of 10. Also, the drop on death nature of the Pallium and Staff caused these items to be rarely used.
- 2. Eliminate some of the undesired effects of people blocking progress of a group by simply waiting at Lady Aerfalle and killing her before the group made it down, effectively stopping the quest for them. Now, this sort of behavior will not result in the quest being ruined.
- 3. Allow people a chance to reacquire parts of this quest if they lose them through some strange game behavior. Now, if you are quest-flagged for any part of the quest, you will be able to repeat it in 14 days.
One important note: If you currently have a Pallium or Staff on an alternate character that you would not want there later, you should make sure it is moved back to the original owner before the May prop next week. After the prop, all existing Palliums and Staves will become permanent items for whomever is carrying them. They can be removed only by giving them to a town crier after that. They are no longer transferable on death.
