Revision as of 13:12, 18 September 2009

I fixed the experience rewards table for quest guide pages to handle situations where the reward isn't level based (a percentage). Because there are various possible permutations it turned out to not be possible to make the column go away without making it overly complex to use. Especially since some tasks might be level based and other tasks might not be within a single quest.

If a task gives fixed xp, set "Percent of Level" and/or "Repeat Percent of Level" to either "N/A" or to "Fixed" and then under that column it will display "Fixed XP" for the task instead of the ?? up to level ??.--Tlosk 21:39, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

As a rule, no items are tagged with category:attuned, since it is more or less a useless category to have. All items that list attuned in brackets in the stat panel show up here if for whatever reason someone wants to see all attuned items.

as for the quest item category, I will move the discussion to the forum where everyone can discus it. --An Adventurer 01:54, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

I have recently purged the Category:Bonded of all incorrectly listed items. From the Category:Bonded page:

In general, only items that might be carried as gear are explicitly categorized as Bonded (like armor, weapons, gems, etc). Quest items, decorative items and the ilk need not be categorized as bonded.

In the future, only place the bonded category on items that fit the equipment criteria. Thank you. --Adventurer's Golem 16:14, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for all your hard work, you've been given sysop status which will make some things easier and allow you to make deletions, edit protected pages, and block a user if you notice vandalism. Additional options will be available on the Special Pages list in bold and as tabs (delete, move, protect) on some pages. --Tlosk 14:23, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Yeah we'll want to add that into the template since there's quite a few items that will need it (for things that are unique to a single item squeezing them into the description like you did is the best thing to do). Where does the req fall (what comes before and after)? --Tlosk 01:20, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

I removed the base melee, missile and defense req variables and replaced them with a catchall "Special Req" parameter where you can type out the full text of whatever the requirement is. This way it'll be able to handle any weapon, magic, or defensive requirement that might pop up.--Tlosk 22:26, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

What I do quite often is use a site specific google search like this: Goggle Search of asheron.info

The issue is inherent to the mediawiki software though because articles and files are themselves case sensitive. "Long Swords" and "Long swords" would be two different articles even though in our particular case we're unlikely to have article names that legitimately differ only in case.

Work is currently being done on the search backend and will be improved in future versions, I did find an extension though that should make the search suggestions case insensitive as a temporary fix until then. However I will need to wait to turn it on until the next backup because it requires some table rebuilds to function. --Tlosk 08:20, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Think of the Missing Pages link more as a tool that is useful to find things that could be added than as a page that is ideally empty. For that reason leaving ?? as a link makes them easy to find and they should be left as links. The Sold By links will always be empty pages, they are a trick we're using to provide segregated lists of links. We're just now starting to use them and until we've updated most of the shopkeepers to the new NPC Shopkeeper template we won't be activating the final template that makes use of them. That probably doesn't make much sense, it might be easier to see a link that is an example for Comfrey Peas:

Normally a whatlinkshere link would display all links, including patch pages, spell formulas, etc. The link above though only displays shopkeepers. We'll be using this type of link for creatures also (for location lists in dungeons, terrain spawns, etc). So you can just ignore missing pages that are sub pages of another article.

Oh and when you sign comments you can use the signature button, the second to the last just above the edit box, it'll insert --~~~~ which will be converted to a link to your user page and a time stamp when the edit is saved. It makes it easier to reply, thanks. --Tlosk 02:13, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Hiya, I'll do some tests and see what I can get working. Also could you give me an example of a page where it would be used and a list of the items that would be included as an example to make sure I'm thinking the same you are?

For the xp table, if it's a fixed amount for everyone, don't use the xp table at all, just delete that section and set Link XP to false (the xp will be still be displayed in the summary table at the top). The reason we made the XP section and table was to provide a place for detailed information on level %, maxes, repeats, multiple tasks and that wouldn't all fit nicely in the summary table. So for most quests, especially older ones, they won't need the XP section since it's just a single value. Though there may be some cases where we'd want a table but not have the % of level column, I'm pretty sure I can't pull columns in the middle, just end columns (like with repeat differs) but I'll see what I can do. --Tlosk 21:54, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

I should add that for quests with no xp reward cut out the xp section also, link xp false, and in the xp put "None". --Tlosk 22:24, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Can you just make it so anything with a blank parameter doesn't get put into the table? -- RR
The reason a blank entry gives ?? is for some quests, often new ones, we don't know for a while whether they are % or flat xp (or when writing up an old or retired quest from notes from other sources, until you can get in game to verify things). And that signifies more information is needed. However if I do find a way to make middle columns conditional I'll add another parameter like the repeat boolean.
I agree that would be nice to have the tables update themselves as things are added. Our directory pages like Dungeons, Quests, Weapons, along with those you mentioned are hard to keep up to date as we are back-filling old content. We're actually getting pretty close now to have content from old patches complete and once that's done the pages will be a lot easier to keep up to date since we'll just have to add each months new content when a new patch comes. I've got a few ideas though I'm testing on a local copy of the wiki, but you're right, it won't be simple hehe. But it would be a very useful thing to have. --Tlosk 09:28, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Just wanted to say thanks a lot for working on improving the starter quest guides. Its been something I have been meaning to do but never got around to. --An Adventurer 19:43, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
