Revision as of 11:48, 20 February 2010

Additional Updated Quests/Dungeons

Django revealed in this post that there were more quests updated in Reforging the Past than the ones in the release notes and as part of the Hub. So lets get out there and start finding these hidden updates. Add anything you check to the list, even if it had not updates. Sign your entries with --~~~~

Checked:

Facility Hub

There is a lot of new stuff with this hub, so we should discuss how to add it.

  • Wardens
This seems pretty easy to me. All wardens get the name of their portal added to the end of their name, for example, Warden (Dangerous Cave). The only NPC that I see not working for this is the one with 3 portals for the Mace of the Explorer Quest. So alternatively, all the wardens could be named for the item they request, for example Warden (Tibri's Fire Spear). However, I think naming them after the portal which they are next to makes more sense, so the Warden for the mace quest will just be a special case.
  • Quests
How do we handle the quests? I noticed that, while all the quests are old quests updated for this new hub, some of the Wardens request a new item. For example, the Warden for the mountain sewers asked for some new thing and not the experimental portal gem from the Bur Flagging Lower quest.

My suggestion is that we create one new Quest Guide page for all the quests in the Facility hub, probably call it Facility Hub Quests. The walk through will be broken up by levels, just like the wings of the facility (it you notice, they label each side room by its level, 10, 15, 20, etc). I picture something like this:
10+ Quests
<<Quest Name>>
:Warden: Link
:Item: Link
:Reward: ## experience
:Maps and guide:
:* Quest guide link
:* Link
:* Map file link (wiki or ACMaps)
  • Links
If we decide to go with the single guide idea, then each item would have the Facility Hub Quests added to its intro link. For example, the Ice Tachi intro would be:
    Introduced: Release
Related Quests: Ice Tachi Quest, Facility Hub Quests
Updated: That Which Is Ours, Reforging the Past
And the notes section would be updated to state the two NPCs that except the item.

All Quests that are part of the new hub would have the Facility Hub Quests be listed under related quests.

Thoughts? --An Adventurer 16:55, January 12, 2010 (UTC)

Sounds good but let's make sure to update the old quest page walkthroughs too to make sure people are steered toward the new Hub early. That way they can get the full reward of each quest just in case they miss the turn-in NPC notes.

Good idea. All the quests that are a part of the hub should mention that in the top section, Quest Overview, along with the link to the Hub Guide in the related quests. --An Adventurer 18:30, January 12, 2010 (UTC)

It also looks like some of the old guides will have to rewritten anyways. The Glenden Wood Dungeon Quest has numerous updates, the Dagger of Tikola Quest has a new way to obtain the entry key, etc. Its going to be a lot of work to get everything updated that the Facility Hub recycled. --An Adventurer 20:11, January 12, 2010 (UTC)

Makes me wonder how they get so much done, since it probably takes 5x to 10x longer to create and test content than to just document it hehe. --Tlosk  talk  contr 21:12, January 12, 2010 (UTC)

Wow it is a big bundle of work to get the old quests updated. I took a stab at the haunted mansion yesterday.

One thing I found was the level restrictions - do we just automatically update the level restrictions for the old quest to the Hub portal restriction?

Another is the experience rewards - there is a 'quest xp reward' and a 'Hub NPC xp reward'. Do we split those out on the experience line or add them together?

Also the Hub reward is one-time-only, so how do we define the timer?

Perhaps an update to the Quest Template (or a new Hub Quest Template) where we can add the Hub information separately from the regular quest information. (something like (Hub Quest true/false, Hub timer, Hub xp, Hub NPC, Hub rewards, etc.). We might consider also a new Hub Quest category (since there are so many of them). Just a thought.

Maybe we could leave the old quests essentially the same layout, updating anything that has changed in a way consistent for anyone that does it (like the timers on many of them) and we could add a small box to the general section that would summarize hub information (like the portal req, the reward, the warden to talk to, etc). That would make it easier to quickly identify the hub content while segregating it from standard quest content. Here's a mockup that we can modify at Sandbox (original permalink). It also adds a Category:Facility Hub Quest tag. Once we've finalized the design and what to include I can convert it to a template. I also stuck a version in the Ice Tachi Quest page so it can be seen in context. --Tlosk  talk  contr 19:00, January 15, 2010 (UTC)

Looks cool, but the exploration society symbol should not be used. Although they seem to have some ties, the hub is run by a different group, and if you read the teaser, it actually seems to be run by some potential villains.

I agree with leaving the quests the same, and just mentioning that they are part of the hub. All the quests can still be run normally without using the hub at all, and the hub rewards are a once-per-character thing, so the guides should not be rewritten specifically for the hub. --An Adventurer 19:11, January 15, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah I noticed that, however since they're an "independent organization" that has yet to be named, and it has a relationship with the Exploration Society (and that's who gives you the teleportation device), I figured we'd just use it until they reveal their name/symbol and then update it. --Tlosk  talk  contr 19:27, January 15, 2010 (UTC)

I like it! Can we place that new yellow dialog in the right column along with the quest information? Or does it have to be inline in the page like on your Ice Tachi quest page?

How's this look?

Sandbox Two

Looks Great! -- Dr Doom HG (talk) 17:52, January 18, 2010 (UTC)

A parameter has now been added named "Hub Quest" that can be filled out using the Hub Quest template. All the parameter fields lack formatting to allow flexibility in how you list/display the items. See Ice Tachi Quest for a usage example.
