Introductory Quests
When you first arrive in Dereth, you will be inside the Training Academy. Completing the Training Academy Quest (or bypassing it by speaking to Jonathan) will get you to level 5 with academy equipment. You will exit the academy at your chosen starting town, and will be presented with a dialog box instructing you to find the Lifestone Greeter.
The Lifestone greeter is easy enough to find - they are the person in blue armor standing next to the lifestone. In Holtburg, this is Alcott. In Sanamar, this is Rufina. In Shoushi, this is Eiichi. In Yaraq, this is Ghaziyah. The Lifestone greeter will give you some information on lifestones, and instruct you to open your Contracts & Journal Panel, which will now contain the Find the Barkeeper contract. Speaking to the Lifestone greeter will also grant you 7,000 xp, bringing you to level 6.
Your next task is to speak with the Bartender Greeter. In Holtburg, this is Buckminster. In Sanamar, this is Fiorella. In Shoushi, this is Benjirou. In Yaraq, this is A'shadieeyah. The Bartender greeter will tell you a little more about contracts. Speaking to the Bartender greeter will also complete the Find the Barkeeper contract, add the Find the Pathwarden contract, and grant you 9,300 xp, bringing you to level 7.
Your final starter task is to speak with the Pathwarden Greeter. In Holtburg, this is Pathwarden Thorolf. In Sanamar, this is Pathwarden Thierra Molanti. In Shoushi, this is Pathwarden Koro Ijida. In Yaraq, this is Pathwarden Qanara bint Qolosh. The Pathwarden greeter will tell you about their equipment. Speaking with the Pathwarden greeter will also grant you 12,500 xp, bringing you just shy of level 8.
Contract Quests
Now that your initial training is complete and you are equipped with Pathwarden armor and Academy weapons, you are ready to take on a few quests.
Return to the tavern and speak with the barkeeper. In Holtburg, this is Barkeeper Wilomine. In Sanamar, this is Barkeeper Jean Vaden. In Shoushi, this is Nin Hong the Barkeeper. In Yaraq, this is Barkeep Jubal al-Baljad.
Purchase the contracts available from your town's barkeeper:
Holtburg:
Sanamar:
Shoushi:
- Contract for Braid Mansion - Guide
- Contract for Nen Ai's Pet Drudge - Guide
- Contract for Facility Hub
Yaraq:
- Contract for Sea Temple Catacombs - Guide
- Contract for Under Cove Crypt - Guide
- Contract for Facility Hub
Completing your town's contracts should be enough to bring you to level 10. If you wish to complete other quests or hunt to reach level 10, continue reading below.

This is another quest available in Sanamar. This quest involves collecting items from multiple dungeons in the Sanamar area.
Trade Alliance Quest
Experience Reward: 45,000 (fixed, 7,500 x 6)
This is another quest available in Sanamar. This quest involves visiting the other three starting towns and completing several tasks.
Outdoor Hunting
The lands around the four starter towns are excellent places to hunt outdoors. The creatures immediately outside the towns are passive until attacked, so they are very easy to fight. If you are looking for some starter cash, you can easily hunt the landscape and return to town with full packs and gain tens of thousands of pyreals.
Dungeon Hunting
Likewise, the dungeons around the four current starter towns are great hunting spots. The creatures inside are aggressive however, so be careful, especially if you have a low health template. Beware of the Small Fledgling Mukkir Nests outside Holtburg, Shoushi, and Yaraq - these will be too dangerous for characters fresh out of the training academy.
Other dungeon suggestions:
- Undead Mechanic Quest dungeons:
- Filos' Doom (Alloy Device)
- Empyrean Garrison (Alloy Apparatus)
- Bone Lair (Alloy Instrument)
Tips
- The Pathwarden Armor provides decent protection and enchantments for the first few levels. On top of that, it is attuned and cannot be lost on death.
- Healers in Holtburg, Sanamar, Shoushi, and Yaraq sell level 1 - 4 Attribute buffs. Look under "Services".
- The Lugian merchants in Holtburg, Shoushi, and Yaraq sell special protection gems. When used, these gems cast spells equal to level 3s for the 7 elemental protections and the natural armor spell.
- The healers in non-starter towns, for example Cragstone and Arwic sell better potions and healing kits than those you can find in your starter town. If you have healing, Gifted Healing Kits are the best kit until you can obtain stronger kits from quests.
