A bonded item will not drop on death. Bonded items can still be dropped, given, and traded freely, unless the item is also Attuned. In general, only items that might be carried as gear are explicitly categorized as Bonded (like armor, weapons, gems, etc). Quest items, decorative items and the ilk need not be categorized as bonded.
