This is a seasonal quest, so it can be done just once per year, normally during one week each December.

Walk Through

Travel to 12 locations scattered throughout Dereth (see map below) to find 12 hidden Gift Boxes. Use each box for a special reward (one of five trophy rewards listed below, 12 total) and a title. Once you've used all 12 you will be rewarded with a Polar Ursuin Lair that summons the Pet Polar Ursuin Cub and a 2nd title.

  1. Empyrean Lighthouse - 26.4S 97.0E (North of Tou-Tou.)
  2. Frost Haven - 68.6S 26.0E (Northeast of Qalaba'r, just outside Frost Haven. Options: Use the Citadels Portal Device and run there from Ridge Citadel, or Qalaba'r Oasis Settlement portal at 74.8S, 17.8E.)
  3. Igloo - 73.8N 13.7W (Northeast of Stonehold.)
  4. Linvak Tukal - 77.8S 27.9E (Inside the top of the south wall. From drop turn right and use ramp on south wall to go up, then inside and up internal ramp once, then west to box.)
  5. Midsong Festival Stone - 0.0N 0.0E (Portal in Al-Jalima, Midsong Cottages at 5.7N 4.3E.)
  6. Neydisa Castle - 69.7N 17.6E (On third floor in attic.)
  7. Obsidian Span - 34.6N 41.2E (Take East Span portal at 32.8N 59.4E east of Arwic, then follow road west to bridge.)
  8. Old Frost Essence Island - 16.4N, 53.6E (Run north from Rithwic, stick to left bank of river.)
  9. Plateau Village - 44.3N 43.4W (On second floor.)
  10. Swamp Temple - 23.4S, 47.9E (East of Yanshi take Swamp Temple Place Portal at 10.3S 45.7E and inside bunker with dungeon portal.)
  11. Ulgrim's Island - 94.8S 9.7W (Inside under stairs.)
  12. Xarabydun - 41.9S 16.1E (Go down tunnel and stick left until come to box under the beam of light.)

Portal Ties

If you will be running a large group, or many characters, it can be helpful to tie to nearby summonable portals to save running.

  1. Tou-Tou portal in Arwic at 33.8N 56.4E.
  2. Mount Ingot exit portal at 67.8S 25.5E.
  3. Stonehold portal located in Umbral Hall
  4. Linvak Tukal portal in Yaraq at 21.8S 1.0W.
  5. Midsong Cottages at 5.7N 4.3E south of Al-Jalima.
  6. Neydisa Castle portal in Holtburg at 41.8N 33.4E.
  7. Obsidian Span portal in Direlands Subway at 18.6S 84.5W north of Mount Lethe (Lockpick required).
  8. Leafdawning Settlement portal in Rithwic at 8.6N 60.9E.
  9. Plateau Top portal at 45.3N 44.2W just west of Plateau Village.
  10. Swamp Temple exit portal at 23.4S 47.9E.
  11. Baishi portal, in Ayan Baqur at 56.7s 88.9w or Atrium Residential Halls (Glenden Wood and Qalaba'r) or Jungle Subway.
  12. Xarabydun portal at 21.8S, 1.4W in Yaraq.

Holtburg Start

Best way to do this is to buy several Holtburg gems from the mage in town. Pick up your Yaraq, Nanto, Xarabydun, and Yanshi gems at the same time. Have someone with a Stonehold tie or Jungle Subway, and a Subway tie would mean not needing the Holtburg gems.

  1. Empyrean Lighthouse - 26.4S 97.0E (North of Tou-Tou.) Holtburg to portal at 42.6N, 34.3E ->Arwic to portal at 33.8N, 56.4E ->Tou-Tou to run to 26.4S 97.0E. Recall Last Portal, and/or run to the Arwic portal in the center of town.
  2. Midsong Festival Stone - 0.0N 0.0E Holtburg to portal at 33.8N, 56.4E ->Arwic to portal - >Al Jalima to portal at 5.7N 4.3E -> Midsong Cottages -> Run to 0/0 (past the Festival Stone and up against the mountainside) Recall Back to Holtburg
  3. Neydissa Castle - 69.7N 17.6E (On third floor in attic.) Holtburg to portal at 41.8N 33.4E. ->Neydissa Castle
  4. Obsidian Span - 34.6N 41.2E Subway or Holtburg to Arwic portal at 42.6N, 34.3E,-> to portal East Span Portal at 32.8 59.4E -> -> Run OR take the Obsidian Span portal in Direlands Subway at 18.6S 84.5W north of Mount Lethe (Lockpick required, and not advised). For those of you with a quick ride to Ayan, use the Shortcut to Teth in the pedestal statue and take the Hilltop portal at Teth. Run east/NE to the Bridge.
  5. Old Frost Essence Island - 16.3N 53.5E (Run north west from Rithwic,) Holtburg to portal at 42.4N, 33.7E -> Rithwic to portal at 8.7N, 60.9E -> Leafdawning Settlement -> Run North- stick to left bank of river.)
  6. Igloo - 73.8N 13.7W (Northeast of Stonehold.) Holtburg to portal at 42.6N, 34.3E ->Arwic to portal at 33.8N, 56.4E ->Tou-Tou to run to portal at 27.1S, 96.0E -> Snowy -> Run south from 85.3 N 8.8W OR Umbral Halls North Branch last port on right-> Stonehold -> Run. Note get onto high plain first by heading north up the hills of Stonehold first, then East from drop. Starting going East means going around cliffs.

Yaraq Start

  1. Linvak Tukal - 77.8S 27.9E (Inside the top of the south wall. From drop turn right and use ramp on south wall to go up, then inside and up internal ramp once, then west to box.) Yaraq to portal at 21.8S 1.0W ->Linvak Tukal. OR, you can naturally use a Linvak Tukal Recall Gem. If you are running this in series, go up and buy a bunch of them for your next flight of people.
  2. Plateau Village - 44.3N 43.4W (On second floor.) The fastest way to get to Plateau is to buy a Wedding Invitation from the Planner in Holtburg. Just a short run south. Or: Plateau Top portal at 45.3N 44.2W just west of Plateau Village. Yaraq (21.90S, 0.62W) -> Khayaban -> Oriel Residential Halls -> Plateau Village OR Umbral Halls West branch has Plateau portal.
  3. Ulgrim's Island - 94.8S 9.7W (Inside under stairs.) NOte: The fastest way to the Madman is to 'give' Sake to Ulgrim in Ayan, he summons a portal directly there. Have Wah Chon's Winter Lager from Nanto first! Shoushi to portal at 33.3S 72.8E -> Nanto for lager. From Plateau, enter the statue and exit in Baishi. Subway->Qalibar->Atrium Residential Halls ->Baishi -> Drunken Madman at 53.0S, 61.0E give lager. OR Ayan Baqur to portal at 56.7s 88.9w -> Baishi run to -> Drunken Madman at 53.0S, 61.0E give Lager
  4. Xarabydun - 41.9S 16.1E (Go down tunnel and stick left until come to box under the beam of light.) Yaraq to portal at 21.8S 1.4W -> Xarabydun Or Jungle Subway.

Shoushi Start

  1. Swamp Temple - 23.4S, 47.9E (East of Yanshi take Swamp Temple Place Portal at 10.3S 45.7E and inside bunker with dungeon portal) (turn right as you go into the bunker and take those stairs). Behind false wall. Yanshi Gem, or Shoushi to portal at 33.5S 73.1E -> Yanshi to portal at 10.3E 45.7S-> Swamp Temple Place Portal -> Run

Subway Group If no Subway port is available Yaraq -> Zaikal -> Qalibar

  1. Frost Haven - 68.6S 26.0E (Northeast of Qalaba'r, just outside Frost Haven. Use Chapterhouse Recall if you have it, or Subway->Qalabar to Settlment ports (Mattekar Slopes) at 74.8S 17.8E -> drops 68.6S 30.6E – Run. It's atop a hill a little distance from the Snowman Village.

The rewards from this quest vary by level.

IF you are low level, or a new character, running this quest results in XP sufficient to raise a sub-30ish character exactly one level, to a maximum XP amount of 1.5 million, for every Gift box you touch...a nice kicker for new characters, and heartily advised.

For higher level characters, or those who performed the quest last year, your reward for using the boxes is one of the random rewards above. Grand Casino keys seem to be the rarest, and Colosseum Coins the most common. For completing all 12 you are additionally rewarded with a Polar Ursuin Lair and Pet.

Town Crier tells you, "A close family friend of mine discovered some giant gift on his way to visit me for the holiday season. I wonder if there are more gifts around Dereth?"

Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "The only giant gift box I want would be full of ale!"

Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "I found a nicely packaged little gift box the other day. I was tempted to open it, but I resisted the temptation. The last time I opened up a strange gift that some stranger had left for me, I ended up on this godforsaken world."
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "No, wait, that's how I ended up naked and penniless in Canfield with a big bruise on my forehead. I ended up here because I drunkenly stumbled into a portal, thinking it was a clever new kind of outhouse."

Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "It's a time for giving and I hear someone has left giant gift boxes around Dereth. Mine was full of ale."
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "Of course it only lasted me a day."
