The Markers are now sorted by the patch they were introduced. I did a grouping by location and a first attempt to find a more efficient route to grab m all (found here: User:Sanddh/Sandbox#Dereth Exploration Markers Efficient Route), and would like to put it on this page so others can work on it. The article is already very very long, anyone got any ideas how to integrate the two ways of presenting all the Markers? --Sanddh 02:48, November 20, 2009 (CET)

I suggest that we place your guide at Dereth Exploration/Markers by Efficiency or some other appropriate title, and we move the current listing to Dereth Exploration/Markers by Month. Then we place links to both in the walk through --An Adventurer 16:08, November 20, 2009 (UTC)

Note: patches not archived until all markers from that month are discovered

If Turbine is following a pattern, every other month has themed markers. There were several titles added during the month the quest was introduced. Several were the generic explorer titles for finding X number of markers, and the others were the theme reward titles. The only two possible theme titles left from that first patch are Daredevil and Spelunker.

I can guess that Spelunker either means inside caves (the landscape object) or inside dungeons. Going on that plus the ulgrim hints, I went to his island and checked out his dungeon, but didn't find a marker.

I really don't know what Daredevil could be, other than dangerous locations, or locations involving heights/jumps.

--An Adventurer 17:04, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

5 Markers found, no title hint yet. Either this means some (up to 3) of the markers are actually from last patch, or (coincidentally) only the none-title ones have been found, or there is no theme.

This would mean, however, a break in the pattern of themed-no/themed markers. Until now we had (trying to summarize :) ):

  1. Mountain Climber (5 themed) - January Patch
  2. Amateur Explorer (20 Markers found) - February Patch
  3. Party Goer (5 themed) - March Patch
  4. Experienced Explorer (40 Markers found) - April Patch
  5. Crater Crasher (5 themed) - May Patch
  6. Adept Explorer (60 Markers found) - June Patch

This leaves (undiscovered titles from portal.dat of January Patch):

  1. Daredevil, Sky Diver or Spelunker - July Patch
  2. Master Explorer (80 found?) - August Patch
  3. Daredevil, Sky Diver or Spelunker - Sept. Patch
  4. Elite Explorer (100 found?) - October Patch

The one in the Cave for the PT Olthoi Queen just screams for the "Spelunker" theme, but nogo. The Iceberg one also refers to spelunking...

Now, with the Crater Crasher theme, the one in the Aerlinthe Caldera was also screaming to be a "themed" one, but it was not. So my wild guess at this moment the theme is "Spelunking", but what keeps the title-message from popping up? Until now, we had none at all in dungeons. But both the Iceberg one and the PT Cave suggest it *is* possible for a marker to show up in "open access" dungeons. Just a few ideas which immediately come to mind to this sort of dungeons:

  • Sword of Bellenesse
  • Small Mukkir Slayers (Fledgling Mukkir Nests)
  • Deru Tree
  • Snake Tunnels (Radiant Mana Infusion)
  • Tracing the Stone dungeon in GY
  • Both "Deep"s (ok, small spelunks, but still)
  • The Tusker Emporium on AL
  • Old Scratchy's Cave

If anyone remembers by heart where there were more of the "open access" dungeons.. I'm gonna start with the ones I listed.

Well Spelunker is the theme this month. I think it will be pretty hard considering the one known spelunker marker is deep within a dungeon. Now, since spelunking literally means exploring caves, should we limit ourselves to the natural cave-like dungeons or not? There are some obvious dungeons that would be good to check like Adventurer's Haven and Subway, but they are not natural cave structures.

edit: And would olthoi dungeons be considered natural caves? Some place like the bottom of the Black Death Catacombs or deep in the Catacombs of Opposition (Olthoi Hunter Town) would be a good location for a marker.

--An Adventurer 18:43, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Looks like my hunch was a good one. I found a marker in the BDC deeper catacombs. I did a partial check of the BDC and the Catacombs of opposition, but I didn't find anything and wouldn't expect to with the marker I found.

With the spelunker markers found so far, it looks like any dungeon could have a marker - its not limited to caves/natural dungeons, or original dungeons, or anything.

I have no idea where to check. But, if I had to start somewhere, I might go with dungeons in the a'mun desert or the blackmire swamp, since those areas are the most barren on the overall marker map.

I've confirmed that the 5th exploration marker is in the Eater Pit. This dungeon can only be entered while doing the Knights of Karlun Quest, which can only be completed once.

sometimes, I feel the devs have no clue wtf they are doing. this is one of those times. --An Adventurer 18:56, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
