Introduced:  Thorns of the Hopeslayer Related Quests:  Shadow Armor

Information

  • During the Darkness Ascendant event menacing Shadow Spires appeared from beneath the surface of Dereth. Tales were told of random travellers being abducted and sent to the spires for interrogation.
  • During the Thorns of the Hopeslayer event large Shadow armies started to invade Dereth and portals appeared giving players access to the Shadow Spires. At the top each Spire was a portal that lead to creatures called Spire Shadows (Level 133) - when defeated they dropped Spire Key Chunks.
  • The Key Chunks were taken from the corpses of the Spire Shadows near each town and combined by the players to create a complete Shadow Key.
  • In the final stage of the Shadow invasion portals started to appear on each server giving access to the Nexus dungeon. Using the Shadow Key players could enter the final dungeon.
  • At the end of the Nexus dungeon was a Nexus Crystal which when defeated dropped a Nexus Core Gem. The gem could be handed in to one of the master armorers for a suit of Nexus Shadow Armor.
  • Due to the popularity of amuli and celdon, Nexus koujia was not created and does not exist on any of the servers.
  • Only 1 Nexus Core Gem dropped for each server resulting in the armor being considerably rare and sought after, especially on the Darktide server where it was known to have sold for thousands of US dollars.

Suit Owners

Duping of the Nexus Shadow Armor

  • In December 2001 the owner of the Darktide suit had duplicated his copy multiple times. This resulted in Turbine deleting all copies of the armor including the original in March 2002.
  • You can read the announcement made by Turbine here.

You can view some screenshots of the Nexus celdon and amuli suits on Maggie Jackcat's Thorns of the Hopeslayer page. The screenshots below are suits of dyed blue sharded Shadow armor, and are the closest in resemblance to Nexus armor of the different variations available. The main difference being that real Nexus is dark blue and not black with blue veins, patches and trim.
