Lore
Moarsmen, like Slithis, were initially only encountered among the steaming jungles of the Vesayen Isles but who have since spread to the Direlands, Vissidal and various dungeons. Unlike the Slithis, whose references in ancient lore have vaguely menacing overtones, these finned amphibian bipeds seem to have a gentler history (see Moars).
A small army of Moarsmen guard the catacombs of Ithaenc Cathedral from trespass. They were present in the tunnels when the Catacombs first opened in Leafcull of P.Y. 11, implying that they have been performing the same role for centuries. From references in the Empyrean archive found under Xarabydun, it would seem that the priestesses of the Adjanite Order made a practice of taming and training the beasts. If true, this would indicate that, like the feral Gromnies, Moarsmen are one of the rare native species to survive the arrival of so many alien species on Dereth.
Moarsmen excrete a foul, gleaming substance through the pores of their skin. This rank muck is responsible for the acidic damage moarsmen do in melee combat. Most feared though is their breath attack, a vile swamp gas that ignites on contact with the air, doing fire damage.
The best attack to use on most Moarsmen with weapons is Slashing or Pierce. Cold may be useful for war magic, as it gets to bypass Armor. Also, many of the higher level Moarsmen encountered later in the game are Vulnerable to Imperil...they get reduced to negative Armor by Imperil effects, and take 3 to 7 times the normal damage when Imperiled.
