Why does unarmed combat enjoy such high crits?

Question Title: Why does unarmed combat enjoy such high crits?
Category: Combat
Question: For clarification, I mean that if an unarmed character normally hits (sans critical hits) in a range of 4-16 damage they can have critical hits all the way up to 64-65 points of damage, which is roughly 4 times the base damage.

All "standard" weapons like sword/axe and such always critical up to 2 times the max normal base damage.

Does it have something to do with a skill check against UA number?

Answer: Every weapon class crits basically the same way. I've seen sword users crit for up to four times their damage average as well. The trick is using the right weapon with the right creature. In this category, unarmed benefits, because they have a every damage type.

This is not to discount sword users, because I've seen some screwy olthoi crits come out of them before. It all just depends on being in the right circumstance.
