Can dark dungeons be made by placing _no_ lightsources inside?

Question Title: Can dark dungeons be made by placing _no_ lightsources inside?
Category: Dungeons
Question: I know the question has been asked in various ways, but, call me stubborn if you will, I can't figure out why you can't create a dungeon that has no internal lightsources. Then a lightsource of some sort would need to be brought in from outside in order to see inside.

As far as I can tell, if there are no lightsources in a dungeon, then no matter how I change gamma settings, the colors should still resolve to the same value - black (or some shade of grey?) (I do realize that a portal to leave the dungeon is a lightsource.)

Answer: Most of the Xarabydun's Lightless Tunnels dungeon has no light sources. The thing is;

1) Dungeons you can't see are boring.

2) By adjusting brightness and gamma correction, players can light them anyway.

So there's really no point to making them.
