We at Asheron's Call truly love to hear from our player community. To prove this, we're offering a free year of Asheron's Call just for sharing some of your brilliant ideas! Microsoft has partnered with five top AC fan sites to bring you this opportunity -- and to present you with this challenge.
We're looking for essays on how you would advance the storyline of AC. Not only will the author of the winning essay receive a free year of AC, but the essay may even be made into one of our future monthly updates! Essays must be 500 words or less and will be judged on the following criteria:
- Creativity (33.3%)
- Use of Asheron's Call backstory (33.3%)
- Ability to impact all experience levels (33.3%)
This contest begins November 13th. All entries must be submitted by midnight, December 8th to the participating fan sites listed below. Only one entry per fan site please. The participating fan sites will select their top finalists and submit them to Microsoft and Turbine Interactive for selection of the final winner. The Asheron's Call "Dream Event" Contest Official Rules
1. ELIGIBILITY
The contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States, District of Columbia and Canada who are 13 years or older at the time of entry and who are existing members of the MSN Gaming Zone Asheron's Call premium service as of November 12, 2000. Void in Quebec, and where prohibited by law. Employees of Microsoft, their affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotional agencies and any person working directly on this program, product or promotions, and the immediate family members of each are not eligible to participate.
2. CONTEST DESCRIPTION
The Microsoft "Asheron's Call "Dream Event" Contest (the "Contest") is a skill game in which participants are asked to create and submit an event scenario based on the Microsoft Game software "Asheron's Call" for judging based on the criteria set forth below. An event scenario is defined as an updated storyline that will evolve the game's plot and provide additional gameplay content for the customers of the game. Five separate fan sites will collect entries, and each fan site will select five finalists from among all eligible entries received. Then, three winners will be chosen from among all finalists to win prizes as set forth below. The contest begins at 12:01 AM PT on November 13, 2000 and will end at 11:59 PM PT on December 8, 2000.
3. HOW TO ENTER
To enter, you must write an essay containing 500 words or less describing a compelling event scenario that you believe would be of interest to other Asheron's Call members. You may either send your essay as an e-mail attachment, or send your essay as body copy in your e-mail message to:

Regardless of your method of submitting your essay, the subject line of the e-mail should contain the words "Asheron's Call Dream Event Contest" and the body of the e-mail should contain your name, mailing address, and daytime phone number (phone numbers will only be used for winner notification). Your event scenario must meet the criteria set forth to achieve an "Everyone" rating according to the Entertainment Software Rating Board
To be eligible for judging, all entries must be received no later than 11:59 PM PT on December 8, 2000. Limit one entry per person per fan site. Multiple entries received from one individual at any fan site will result in disqualification of all subsequent entries. All entries become the property of Microsoft and will not be acknowledged or returned.
By entering this contest, you signify your acceptance of the official rules and agreement to grant to Microsoft a royalty free, non-exclusive, perpetual worldwide license to reproduce, modify, prepare derivative works and otherwise use and publicly display your submission in any and all media for the purpose of incorporating into future products and advertising and promoting Microsoft Web site and products without additional compensation. Microsoft will have the right to assign, transfer or sublicense this license. All winning submissions may be posted on a publicly accessible Web site following the contest. Microsoft disclaims any and all liability for any infringement of any entrant's rights in any submission caused by any third party. All essays submitted must be original, and must have been created and owned exclusively by the entrant submitting the creation. No responsibility is assumed by Microsoft for lost, late, or misdirected entries, or for any or for any computer, online, telephone or technical malfunctions that may occur. Microsoft is not required to use any or all of the winning events in a future Asheron's Call update.
4. WINNER SELECTION /JUDGING CRITERIA
Entries will be judged on or about December 15, 2000 based upon the following criteria: Creativity (33.3%), Use of Asheron's Call backstory (33.3%), and Ability to impact all experience levels (33.3%). The twenty-five (25) finalists will be judged on or about January 10, 2001 based on the same criteria. The decision of the judges is final and binding in all matters related to this contest. All prizes will be awarded provided that a qualified number of entries are received. Winners will be notified by e-mail and/or by regular mail on or about January 31, 2001.

No substitution or transfer of prize permitted, except by Microsoft who reserves the right to award a prize of equal or greater value if advertised prize is unavailable. Limit one prize per person, household and e-mail address. All taxes on prizes are the sole responsibility of the Prizewinners.
6. GENERAL CONDITIONS
Entrants agree to abide by the terms of these Official Rules and by the decisions of the judges which are final on all matters pertaining to this contest. All federal, state, local, provincial and municipal laws and regulations apply. This contest is subject to the laws of the United States. Microsoft reserves all rights, including the right to edit, publish, use, adapt or modify any submission without further consideration or payment to the entrant. Prizewinners may be required to execute and return an Affidavit of Eligibility/Liability and Publicity Release (the "release") and a statement certifying that the submission is the original design of the entrant, the entrant has full rights to the submission, it does not infringe any third party rights and is suitable for publication. If the winner has not reached the age of majority in their state or province of residence, the release must be completed by their parent or legal guardian. If required, these documents must be submitted within seven (7) days following attempted notification. Failure to comply within this time period may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner. Return of any prize/prize notification as undeliverable may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner. Entrants further grant to Microsoft the right to use and publish their proper name, state and submission online and in print in any other media in connection with the Contest. Acceptance of a prize constitutes permission for Microsoft to use winners' names, likenesses, pictures and submitted creations for advertising and promotional purposes without additional compensation unless prohibited by law. By entering, participants release and hold harmless Microsoft, its affiliates, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agents from any and all liability or any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with this contest or any prize won.
7. INTERNET
If for any reason the Internet portion of the program is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Microsoft which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, Microsoft reserves the right at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest. Microsoft assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. Microsoft are not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail or entry to be received by Microsoft on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web site, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in this Contest. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY A CONTESTANT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, MICROSOFT RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH CONTESTANT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. In the event of a dispute, entries made by Internet will be declared made by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address submitted at time of entry. "Authorized account holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet Access provider, online service provider or other organization (e.g., business, educational, institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning e-mail address for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address. In the event of any dispute, potential winner must provide Microsoft with proof that the potential winner is the authorized account holder of the e-mail address associated with the potentially winning entry.
