Question Title: | How is monster and chest loot determined? |
Category: | Items |
Question: | Obviously, the type of monster or chest determines the quality of loot, but what flags are there that go into the loot o mataic equations? I.e., What determines finding a wand as opposed to a plate habruk, as well as the "quality" of such items? |

Answer: | The short of it: Each monster/chest/source of loot in the game has a profile associated with it. These profiles are hand created here. The profile determines a number of things such as: type of treasure (armor, jewelry, wands, food, gems, etc), the quality (level of spells, pyreal worth, dmg bonuses, etc), the racial restrictions (if any), the amount of treasure, the "weight" of the treasure (can't have rats carrying hauberks..), how magical the treasure should be (or how mundane), and a few other tweakables. When going through a treasure profile, there's a LOT of play in the variables. The same profile could spit out a lvl 4 wand and then a BD6 Sword in the next pull. It's random within constraints. |
