The following guide will help you get AC, Decal, and ACDC installed on Windows 8. With this setup, you don't need to run anything as Administrator.
- Download AC from http://content.turbi.../ac1install.exe
- Download Decal from http://www.decaldev..../2970/setup.exe
- Download Drakier's AC Dual Client from http://acdualclient....oad.asp?ID=6001
- Download 7zip from http://www.7-zip.org
- Install AC, making sure to install it to C:\Games\Turbine\Asheron's Call directory
- Install Decal which did the following steps
- Download and install DirectX 9.0c
- Download and install Decal.msi
- While installing Decal.msi, you need to make sure you select Custom, then point it at a directory like C:\Games\Decal 3.0
- Start Decal normally (not Run as Administrator) and update it.
- Right click on ACDualClientSetup.exe and choose 7-Zip -> Open Archive
- Extracted the contents of the file to C:\Games\AC Dual Client
- Open the Decal configuration and click on Add -> Browse -> Navigate to the ACDC directory and select the ACDCCore.dll, then OK a couple times to get back to the main configuration screen.
- Double clicked on ACDualClient.exe, which prompted me to install .net 3.5 which I did, then rebooted
- The next time I double clicked on ACDualClient.exe it complained about the Performance Counters, so I enabled them with the following steps (not necessary, but you won't get the errors again)
- Open Regedit (win+r, then type regedit and agree to the UAC)
- Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PerfProc\Performance
- Right click in right pane, and selct New -> DWORD
- Enter "Disable Performance Counters" as the name and leave the value as 0
- Set up AC Dual Client as needed, to include copying your directories and setting up accounts
Things to note:
- There is a bug in the ACDC code where if you the Start Decal box checked, it will error out on you on the second/third/whatever time you start a client. If you get this error, make sure that the Start Decal box is unchecked. An easy work around for it is to start decal manually, and not rely on ACDC to start it.
