* Between February and May 2004, a multi-month project was made to "reinvigorate the treasure system".

* In the 100th event, Ancient Powers, a 7th loot tier was introduced.
Trophies are separate from the loot system which generates largely random items using profiles and loot tiers.
* In the Old Ghosts event, loot in the 7th tier was expanded to creatures that also drop Pristine Mana Shards. The stat ranges were also adjusted for some items including weapons and covenant armor that drop in the Mana Forge chests.

Trophies are determined as soon as a creature spawns, with loot being generated on the creature's death. This is why trophies always appear in the first slots of a creature's corpse.

Random trophies can also appear inside chests in addition to creature corpses. An early example of this is with Steel Chests that spawn wall and ring spells using the trophy system, while the bolts and arc spells are handled by the treasure system. This is because for a scroll to be generated as loot it needs to exist for all spell levels which wall and ring spells do not. A "new trophy drop method" was also tested with the introduction of Black Marrow Reliquaries which can drop a number of different items in addition to tier 6 loot.

Loot dropped by creatures and found in chests in Asheron's Call is largely random; however, there are seven tiers and other elements to the loot system that work together to generate an item.

The Loot System

Loot Profiles, Tiers and Mutated Items

Items generated by creatures and chests are based on treasure profiles.[1] The profile controls what type of item is generated, how many and also the drop rate. Item types specified are general and include broad categories such as gems, weapons, armor etc[1]

In addition to the profile, there are also 7 loot tiers (also referred to as 'Wealth Ratings'[1]). Although not really seen, there is technically an 8th tier as tier 0 creatures drop no loot, such as the many Elementals and some quest creatures.

The loot tier of a profile is used in two distinct ways during treasure generation. First, it is used in selection to select the exact item that is going to be generated; and secondly it is used in mutation to determine how that item is going to be changed by the treasure system.[1]

Obviously, some items do not mutate as they cannot vary in properties, this includes mundane items such as mana charges and healing kits to name a few. Weapons and armor on the other hand can mutate and be assigned varying properties such as: damage, attack and melee defense modifiers, speed, burden, spells, cantrips, wield requirements and so on.

Game example

Mundane (unmutated) item example.

"The treasure profile used by the Broken Fragment says that when the creature dies, it’s going to create 3 to 5 items. One of those items is going to be either a healing kit (15% chance) or a mana stone (15% chance) or a scarab (70% chance). The profile also says that this is going to be an item with a wealth rating of 1. So when the fragment dies, it rolls a random number – and let’s say that it decides that one item is going to be a healing kit. Then it checks a table for the possible healing kits that can occur in wealth rating 1, and determines that the healing kit can be either a crude kit (75% chance) or a poor kit (25%) chance. It rolls again to decide exactly which kit it will generate."[1]

Additional Properties

There are also special properties that can be applied to a specific creature's treasure profile.

 • Quality property - A creature or item that has the quality property is more likely to generate more of the best items in the assigned loot tier. See the Quality Flag page for more details.[1] [2]
 • Group property - A creature or item with the group property will always drop a larger quantity of loot than normal. Many boss creatures as well as Gold creatures on Vissidal have this property.[3]

Trophies

Main article: Trophies

Trophies are separate from the loot system which generates largely random items using profiles and loot tiers.[1]

Trophies are determined as soon as a creature spawns, with loot being generated on the creature's death.[4] This is why trophies always appear in the first slots of a creature's corpse.

Random trophies can also appear inside chests in addition to creature corpses. An early example of this is with Steel Chests that spawn wall and ring spells using the trophy system, while the bolts and arc spells are handled by the treasure system. This is because for a scroll to be generated as loot it needs to exist for all spell levels which wall and ring spells do not.[1] A "new trophy drop method" was also tested with the introduction of Black Marrow Reliquaries which can drop a number of different items in addition to tier 6 loot.[5]

Every creature of the same type shares the same treasure profile and trophy drop information.[6] Exceptions to this exist when a creature needs to drop a fixed quest trophy which are dropped by unique creatures or by a common creature in a specific location.

Identifying Loot Tiers

"Mundane" Items and Scrolls

Mundane items are generated before other loot and appear in the first slots in a corpse or container just after Trophies. Spell scrolls can appear in any slot.

Loot Properties

The tier a particular creature or chest belongs to has to be inferred by what it drops. Because of overlap between tiers it can take several pulls/drops to correctly determine the tier. Tiers are generally tied into monster level, for example wealth 6 loot appears on almost all creatures level 135 or higher (Grave Rats and Restless Spirits are example exceptions, being 135 and Tier 5).

Weapons

In Master of Arms in Feb 2012 the entire Weapon system in Asheron's Call was revamped. Max weapon stats previous to this update are preserved for historical purposes and can be viewed here.

Due to the high number of edits required to complete this information for current weapons, weapon stat information can be viewed/entered here. Please make all updates to that page, once it is reasonably complete it will be moved to this location on the main Loot page again. The reason for this has to do with this page's size and how that interacts with database size with each additional edit.

Update history

See Updates to the Loot System for a complete list of all updates made.

 • Between February and May 2004, a multi-month project was made to "reinvigorate the treasure system".[1]
 • In the 100th event, Ancient Powers, a 7th loot tier was introduced.
 • In the Old Ghosts event, loot in the 7th tier was expanded to creatures that also drop Pristine Mana Shards. The stat ranges were also adjusted for some items including weapons and covenant armor that drop in the Mana Forge chests.
