Q: I'm kind of curious if Aliester is Ulgrim's father. In the lore article A Sage's Mosswart Encounter Ardry warns his Uncle (Aliester) to stop listening to cousin Ulgrim. I take this to mean Ulgrim is Ardry's cousin and therefore Aliester would be Ulgrim's father. Am I right?
A: Wow, I can't believe you remembered that old article!
Ardry refers to Ulgrim as "cousin" because they are linked in a complex web of familial relations that can best be approximated by calling each other "cousin." Aliester also considers Ulgrim his cousin because it's easier than calling him "third cousin by marriage, once removed" or something like that.
So... no, Aliester is not Ulgrim's father. And I doubt anyone would actually cop to being that crazy old dingbat's father anyway. ;)

- Yeah I suppose you're right, no one would be really dumb enough to admit to something like that. Still, I think its cool Ulgrim has relatives living in Dereth
Ardry and Aliester might not be the only relatives Ulgrim has in Dereth! ;)
- So if I understand this correctly, Ardy and Aliester consider Ulgrim their cousin?
That's correct, he is their distant cousin.

- I think its only logical to realize that Ulgrim has some very close ties to some very powerful people in Dereth... Hence such aspects as his knowledge of tinking with orichalcum (among its other properties and its relation to the virindi) and his nifty spell writing and manipulating abilities.
- There are lots of us Ulgrim fans out there who take note of all the little things he says and things that refer to him... and would likely be more enthusiastic to follow him rather than either of the main factions fighting at the moment.
- I mean just think of the marvelous alcohol related monuments that the reign of King Ulgrim would construct.
Orichalcum! Nice reference. I think that was one of Ulgrim's original sayings... It's good to have confirmation that there are folks out there who keep track of what he says.
And yeah, you guys have not yet seen just how far up the ladder Ulgrim can go. :)
