Quest Overview

Give fused Crystal and Shadow fragments to the Master Armorers and they will build you a suit of powerful Shadow Hunter Armor.

Walk Through

Optional: Purchase the text Aliester's Corollary from various shopkeepers for more information on gemstone armor.

Step 1: Gathering the Fragments

Shadow Fragments

The black fragments can be retrieved from Shadow creatures around most parts of Dereth. Generally speaking, the higher the level of the Shadow the bigger the fragment they drop, which in turn allows you to complete your gems quicker than combining parts taken from the lower level Shadows.

A good place to hunt for Dark Shards and Slivers is in Aerbax's Holding.

Crystal Fragments

As with the Dark Fragments, the higher level Crystals tend to drop the Tiny and Small Shards. Getting Crystal Fragments is more difficult than with Shadow Fragments, this is because they mostly spawn on the landscape than within dungeons. However, you can find fixed spawns of Crystals in the Vestibule Chambers such as the Fenmalain, Caulnalain and the Shendolain Chambers.

Step 2: Fusing the Fragments into Gems

Once you have your crystal and shadow fragments, combine the two types using the table below as a guide. You will need two fused gems to receive a full suit of armor from a smith, the first gem you hand in will get you the leggings (including a girth if Celdon) and the second gem will get you the remaining upper parts. Scintillating Gems are rewarded with Greater Shadow Armor (GSA), Sparkling Gems get you Shadow Armor also known as Medium Shadow Armor (MSA) and the smallest and easiest to create, the Glimmering Gems will get you the Lesser Shadow Armor (LSA).

Step 3: Handing Fused Gems in for your Shadow Armor

During the To Raise a Banner of Flame event, the Shadows were alerted to the Master Armorers' abilities and sent Hamud ibn Rafik to kill them. After the attack, they were unable to create the hunter armor at its original strength. The greater suits, now known as "post-patch" suits resemble the old gold style and can be improved with Major Atlan Stones like before, but they have reduced armor level.

Greater Shadow Armor

During the Fever Dreams event, the armorers were restored to their original health by Nuhmudira and were once again able to produce powerful Shadow Armor. The new suits known as Neo-GSA, are silver in color, have a wield requirement of level 30+ and cannot be improved with Atlan Stones. However, the armor has been returned to pre-patch armor levels and can now be dyed with dye pots and improved with Armor Shards for major protection cantrips.

To receive a suit of the old armor, hand each piece of neo armor to the appropriate master smith and he will give you the corrosponding post-patch piece back to you. You can switch pieces back between the two types an unlimited amount of times.

Shadow Armor and Lesser Shadow Armor

Medium and Lesser Shadow armor never received a second update to the silver neo version. When you hand in smaller fused gems you will receive an original pre-patch suit. As with the greater armor, if you hand the medium and lesser pieces back to the smith you will receive a corrosponding post-patch piece. Post-patch lesser was actuallly improved with an extra 10 AL and medium pieces were reduced by 10.

Pre-patch GSA is now retired and no longer attainable through the master armorers. It can only be aquired by trading with players who owned it prior to the To Raise a Banner of Flame event. It does not exist on the newer servers such as Solclaim and Wintersebb.

Step 4: Dying your Armor (GSA Only)

Step 5: Further Improving your Armor

The original way to upgrade the Greater Shadow Armor was with Atlan Stones. Each stone can be placed in the armor for a 20 point bonus to its AL and also unparalleled protection in the element that matches the stone but no protection to that element's weakness (see each of the Major Atlan Stones quests for more details).

Armor Type Armor Level Stoned Armor Level (+20)
Amuli 150 170
Alduressa 150 170
Koujia 155 175
Celdon 170 190

Neo-GSA cannot be stoned like with the post-patch armor but it is possible to upgrade it with shards to give each piece a major life cantrip and also raise its AL by 50 points (see Sharded Shadow Armor Quest for more details).

Armor Type Armor Level Sharded Armor Level (+50)
Amuli 190 240
Alduressa 190 240
Koujia 195 245
Celdon 210 260

Lore & Dialog

Jibril ibn Rashid tells you, "Nuhmudira has finally restored us to full health! She has also stocked us with some extra supplies that we needed, such that we can provide you with either a version of the original Shadow Armor, or its successor. If you wish to trade one version of your Amuli set for another, simply hand it to me. Please take out all Atlan stones from your armor before handing it to me."
Jibril ibn Rashid tells you, "Also, if you wish to color your new Greater Shadow Armor, you may buy a vat of color from my assistant. If you do not like the color, please give me the armor piece and I will replace it with the standard piece, which you may then choose to recolor."

Iian di Alduressa tells you, "With the aid of the other Master Armorers, I have managed to master the basics of crafting Alduressa versions of the Shadow Armors. If you wish to trade one version of your Alduressa armor set for another, simply hand it to me. Please take out all Atlan stones from your armor before handing it to me."br> Iian di Alduressa tells you, "Also, I have heard that the other Master Armorers have apprentices who sell paints for recoloring the Greater Shadow Armors. Those paints will also work upon the Greater Shadow Alduressa that I create. If you do not like the color, please give me the armor piece and I will restore the piece to its original colors, which you may then choose to recolor as you like."
