Asheron's Call Handbook

The Handbook equips you with essential rules and advice for survival and prosperity in Dereth. We encourage you to read each of the following sections thoroughly. For help with some common technical issues, see the Asheron's Call FAQ, which you can get to by clicking Game Help in the menu on the left. To access extensive help within the game, click the Question Mark [?] icon in the upper right corner of the game screen.

Handbook Additions
As Dereth exists in a perpetual state of flux, so do the rules governing the workings of the world. Be sure to check back following each month's update to see what features may have been added or changed.

General Advice

In Dereth, even vagabonds must hold themselves to a minimum level of courtesy, or suffer stern reprisals. Before you enter Asheron's world, we suggest you read the Code by which all players must abide.

When you first arrive in Dereth, you will want to locate sources of information and supplies and determine how best to communicate with fellow adventurers. This guide will help you with these basics, in addition to more difficult matters such as deciding what terms you'll demand before entering an allegiance.

This article outlines the overall duties of the Administrators, to whom you can turn for in-game help.

Game Tips

Never has a more feared collection of monsters been found than of those plaguing the lands of Dereth. A hero would be wise to study these pages before daring to engage any such creature of the wild.

The Land of Dereth
As heroes find themselves summoned to Dereth by Asheron himself, their first adventure must always be to understand the ways of the world itself. Before daring to engage in any further exploit, a hero would be wise to study these pages.

The Way of Steel
The path of the warrior is, by its nature, fraught with peril. Learn some valued advice on ways to walk further down this path, to the ends of power, glory, and wealth.

The Way of Magic
In Dereth, you must walk your own path to magic, but others can help point the way. Remember these basic principles for obtaining spells and determining when and how to deploy them.

You don't have to actually fight other characters, and probably shouldn't until you're both powerful and influential. Learn some basic survival tactics and etiquette, and you may find being a Player Killer makes for deeper, more satisfying gameplay than otherwise possible.

The death penalty is essential to the excitement of the game, but it need not be devastating. Take these precautions to avoid a major setback from your inevitable trips to the lifestone.

Role-Playing and Community Tips

You needn't use antique speech to portray a native of this heroic fantasy world. Consider these guidelines for developing your alter ego.

While many a lone wolf hunts to wilds of Dereth, others consider the ability to communicate with fellow players one of the most enjoyable aspects of the game.

Working as a group may reap far greater rewards than adventuring solo, but only if you effectively organize your group and understand how the fellowship system works, what communication aids it offers, and how it allocates experience points.

The lawless frontier of Dereth attracts many independent adventurers fleeing the complexity, routine, and social obligations of their homeworld. Each aspires to self-rule and hopes to gain respect on his or her own terms. Why then do so many swear their allegiance to another?

Retired Handbook Articles Edit

The following articles were removed from the Handbook when the Advocate and Sentinel programs were disbanded.

The philanthropic ideals of Elysa Strathelar survive through the Advocacy. No matter how low your fortunes, you can always rely on this organization for help. Learn its basic tenets and how to recognize its members, distinguish their levels of power, and even join their ranks.

The Advocates are but a part of the online team organization dedicated to assisting players and enforcing order. This article outlines the overall duties of Advocates, Sentinels, and Chancellors so that you can determine where to turn for help.
